SWTOR Gunslinger Dirty Fighting Build Play Style
As the name suggests the Dirty Fighting build constitutes a play style that is very quick on the draw, incredibly fast paced, and extra mobile. When you begin getting into this play style/build, try to think of yourself as the fist in someone’s face, rather than the thorn in their side that the Saboteur build can often be likened to. Your job is to run up on the unwitting, blast away those not paying close attention to your whereabouts, and then ditch the joint before anything can be done about it.
While other Gunslinger builds usually require a bit more care and subtlety, the Dirty Fighter can for the most part get away with being the hero of the day. In team PvE situations when you are faced with medium to large groups of enemies, look for the straggler that does not hold the attention of the rest of the team. You have the ability to engage them with extreme prejudice, so feel free to open up on them. That being said it is never a bad idea to know your exits, and to know where your tank and healer are in proportion to not only you, but your exits as well.
The Dirty Fighter is unique that most of the damage you inflict will come in the form of bleeding effects. Bleeding effects are almost like poisons in a way, except that they do not inflict damage of their own but act as “stacks” for other abilities to heap on even more damage. The core of these abilities are Wounding Shot and Hemorrhaging Shot, which will be looked at closer in the Key Abilities section.
When working with damage-over-times you want to monitor your DPS in the literal sense of the term. Know how much damage is being inflicted on your target per second, and get a feel for how long it will last. This may seem like an obtuse concept, but one way to really maximize your damage is to begin to practice this. Focus on the higher health targets in any team engagement, as you want to admit the most time possible for your DoTs to tick. Starting on an enemy who is at full health will often be ideal, but even opening your DoTs a foe who is at just over half health can be beneficial, as later on in your skill tree for this build your damage from the DoTs will be increased as their health sinks below a certain percentage.
SWTOR Gunslinger Dirty Fighting Build Tips/Reminders
Run and gun. This is definitely a kiting class, so don’t be afraid to ditch out of an encounter you can’t handle. On the opposing hand though, don’t feel you need to be frugal with your damage. Jump in there, start messing someone (or thing) up and if that doesn’t work, feel free to get out of there.
Target Healers and those that they are following and healing. By keeping your focus and pressure on them you make it easier for them to be steamrolled by the rest of your group, since they will have constant damage to contend with (IE your DoTs).
Amidst all the emphasis for reckless abandon while playing this class, don’t get the wrong message. Cover is still important to make use of, especially since some of your core damage nukes require it. The idea isn’t to disregard cover completely, but to be more aggressive with it.
SWTOR Gunslinger Dirty Fighting Build Key Abilities/Talents
Hemorrhaging Shot: This is a core damage nuke, coupled with the ability to compound more damage with bleeding effects. It deals 161-247 weapon damage and causes the target to take an additional 30% from the next 10 bleed effects. This lasts 15 seconds.
Wounding Shots: Deals 145-221 weapon damage, and for each bleeding effect present on the target it deals an additional 221 internal damage. Skills such as Reopen Wounds and Cold Blooded further amplify this effect.
