SWTOR Jedi Guardian Tank Build Playstyle
Now that have you have the build, we’ll get more into how you should actually go about playing the build. I won’t talk about how to tank a single target fight as that is pretty straight forward, but for more group oriented pulls try and do something along these lines.
Use force leap to bring yourself to one of the enemies further away, follow this up with a Challenging Call. Bring the melee mobs into the ranged mobs so they are all now grouped together for AoE, obviously you wont be able to drag ranged mobs into melee mobs as easily without using LoS.
Use your force sweep ability and then target your healer for a Guardian Leap, by now Force Leap will be available again so you can quickly force leap back into the group of mobs. Now its a matter of sundering and using risposte and taking all the enemies down and holding threat with your damage abilities.
Once your challenging call is available use it and Guardian Leap back to the healer followed by another Force Leap back into the group of mobs and with another Force Sweep again. By now the group will probably be dead depending on what type of instance you are running, if not, just continue to repeat this process and they will be down soon. Remember that you can use force freeze to help you getting used to Guardian leaping out and force leaping back in.
SWTOR Jedi Guardian Tank Build Tips and Reminders
Force sweep should be used every time it is off cooldown, this build completely clears its focus cost so there is no reason to not use it. Also, Riposte will only cost 1 focus and should also be used whenever available assuming you do have 1 focus available.
Remember that Challenging call is a temporary taunt and cannot be used to generate threat, therefore once you’ve used it you’ll need to continue generating more threat before the 6 seconds runs out.
Always keep your sunder armor stacks at the maximum on as many targets as you can especially the main target, this is not hard to do as you will be stacking 2 stacks at a time but just be mindful of them falling off and reapplying them if need be as it is an easy simple task but is extremely beneficial to your group.
SWTOR Jedi Guardian Tank Build Key Abilties/Talents
Improved Sundering Strike: This talent is early on but it is so vital to your build and so extremely useful as it causes your sunder stacks applications to double. This allows you to not only get them on quick at the start of the fight but also reapply them later on if they are to fall off for any reason.
Warding Call: Every tank needs a button to save their ass, this ability will be that button. Using this will reduce all damage you receive by 40% for a short time, do not take this for granted and shove it away as some keybind you’re never going to think of using. Make it ready and available, but be sure you do NOT overuse it, one big issue many tanks have is they pop their cooldown damage reduction abilities “just to be safe” at a time when they really don’t need to and end up dying later because of it.
Overhead Slash: Damage abilities definitely have their place in tanking roles, being a tank isn’t just about having the highest hitpoints, the highest armor value, or the most damage reduction. Being a tank also requires high threat generation, which you aren’t going to get by just blocking attacks. Overhead slash will contribute greatly to your DPS as well as your threat so you aren’t letting mobs run wild in the raid.
Effluence: This talent is great, as I mentioned earlier Force Sweep will be at a 0 focus cost, and that is all thanks to this. Having an ability like Force Sweep available to use every time it is off cooldown is truly luxurious and you will be glad you took this talent.
