SWTOR Operative Medicine Build Playstyle

Alright, in-case you haven’t quite figured this out yet which I’m sure you have, the Medicine build is a healing build, can you imagine that? In this section I’ll cover a few general healing pointers that i’ve accumulated over my years of playing online rpgs as well as specific information regarding this build.

While playing the healer you’re going to have a lot of added weight on your shoulders, seeing as for whatever reason people tend to blame the healer first even when it was completely their fault (dps standing in fire, tanks not using cooldowns on enrage phases, etc) but it is something you’ll need to deal with. Just remember to conserve your cooldown heals and damage reducing abilities for when they are really needed, don’t just use them every time you can to be safe, use them when someone has dropped under 30% or a boss is buffed.

Now specifically regarding the Medicine spec, you will want to build up your two stacks of tactical advantage, reason being that this doesn’t only amplify damage dealing abilities but also healing abilities such as Stim Boost and Kolto Infusion. A good routine is stacking two Kolto Probe followed by a Stim Boost for the energy regenerative buff.

In a situation where your healing targets are taking high damage or have dropped below 40% use tactical advantage to use your surgical probe, if surgical probe is unavailable then use Kolto Infusion, but the odds of you keeping them up will be much lower. This is one of the reasons I emphasize preserving your higher heals such as surgical probe.

Honestly AoE healing as Medicine is more of a pain then it is worth, it is possible to heal a couple targets at once but really you’re better off focusing on one of them at a time. Medicine makes for a great main tank healing build because of its focus on single target healing.

SWTOR Operative Medicine Build Tips/Reminders

You’ll want to make sure Stim Boost is maintained whenever possible, this is one of your main priorities, your second main priority is to keep one or two stacks of Kolto Probe on your main target, so if your job is to keep your main tank alive then you should have the stacks on him while keeping stim boost.

Operatives use energy as a resource system, and I want to really emphasize this: keep your energy around 80% whenever possible. This goes back to the preserving big heals, you should easily be able to maintain 80% energy through the easier parts of the fight. Also this is obviously going to depend on what exactly is going on in the particular boss, some bosses will have an enrage every couple minutes at which point feel free to go all out on your healing because you’ll need to, however, if you don’t already have around 80% energy when this enrage phase starts, you could easily have screwed yourself over.

Diagnostic Scan is a good ability to utilize for a filler heal/energy regaining phase. If you happen to be around 50% energy and about to move into an enrage phase you’ll want to use this to regen energy without letting your tank drop down low before entering the phase as that will be too hard to recover from as well.

SWTOR Operative Medicine Build Key Abilities

Kolto Probe: You’ve seen me mention this ability throughout the guide, basically it is a heal over time effect that stacks twice. It actually summons a droid to do this for you which is cool, but as I said try to keep 2 stacks on your main target at all times as it will heal 560 over 18 seconds with both stacks rolling.

Surgical Probe: This ability requires Tactical Advantage as I said earlier, this is why you need to have a couple stacks of that going on whenever possible so you can pop this off as a quick heal when need be. It is an instant heal that will heal for 106 – 273 and consumes one stack of Tactical Advantage.

Recuperative Nanotech: This is where you can pick up some AoE healing if you really need it, this ability will heal up to 4 allies within 10 meters for 267 over 15 seconds. It is a high energy expense but if you see the raid taking high damage go ahead and throw it on them to help out the raid healer(s).

Surgical Precision: I wanted to touch on this talent just because it is really nifty, it will increase the healing from Surgical Probe by 15% and also cause Surgical Probe to immediately re-enstate another stack of Tactical Advantage whenever it is used on a target below 30% max health, therefore if someone is really low you can use Surgical Probe without worrying about losing your Tactical Advantage stacks on top of it.
